The balance of the cards covers State College of Victoria at Hawthorn cards for 1973-1978. The cards did change over time (some are yellow, others are pink) but continued to record the same types of information. The cards are 2 sided, and generally include the following details: Side 1 - Personal details for the student (names/date of place of birth/naturalized/national service/industrial experience/address), enrolment details, subjects undertaken, fee payments, a photo of the student, address, sponsoring authority, course result (pass or fail), certificate number and date, as well as any relevant notes/remarks etc.; Side 2 - name, marital status, qualifications, trade/industrial experience, teaching, courses, attendance, type of student, whether local or overseas student, whether previously enrolled etc. In terms of broad history; in 1951, the Education Department established the Technical Teachers' Training Centre in the Melbourne Technical College; in 1954 the Education Department granted the Training Centre the status of a teachers' college; in 1973 the Technical Teachers' College, Hawthorn changed its name to State College of Victoria at Hawthorn and became one of the foundation campuses of the newly formed State College of Victoria; in January 1982 the State College of Victoria at Hawthorn changed its name to Hawthorn Institute of Education; and some time after 1997 the Hawthorn Institute of Education changed its name to Hawthorn English Language Centres.
