When Professor Crocker resigned in 1954 Michael Lindsay became Acting Head of Department. In 1957 Prof Martin Wright nominated for the Chair, Department of International Relations, Michael Lindsay was critical of the appointment, leading to eventual withdrawal of Prof Wright. In 1959 Michael Lindsay was appointed Reader in International Relations (ANU), but resigned late 1959 to take up an appointment at The American University, Washington, D.C., U.S.A. In 1961 he completed ‘A Study in Academic Standards’ (3/3) highly critical of both academic bureaucracy and of ANU’s International Relations Department.
