Wright appeared as an expert witness to the Royal Commission of Inquiry concerning the 1978 conviction of Edward Charles Splatt for the murder of Mrs. Rosa Simper. Royal Commissioner Shannon found that in the Splatt case there was a serious question of compromise in the role of forensic investigators as to whether they were acting in an investigative role or as objective scientific observers in the case. In 1984 Edward Splatt was released from prison and pardoned. This series has been deemed open, in line with the access status of items in the State Records Office of South Australia.
