George McKay's descendant Maxwell Burnet began transcribing the diaries using a typewriter in 1958.The final transcripts were bound in 1993 and presented to family members. A copy was also deposited with the University of Melbourne archives as accession 1994.0016.
In 2014 Maxwell suggested to his cousin Graham Burnet that he might revise the transcription via photocopies of the original diaries. Graham also conducted additional family research which is compiled into the final transcriptions.
