The cottage was once the home of Captain James Cook's parents in Great Ayton, Yorkshire England. It was purchased in 1934 by Russell Grimwade, then dismantled and moved stone by stone to Australia, and re-constructed in the Fitzroy Gardens, as a gift to celebrate the State of Victoria's Centenary Year. August 1934.
