Two typescripts, essay on English poet John Lyly (1553-1606), first one annotated in black pen and signed Germaine Greer. Note on back says For Mrs Righter from Germaine Greer. Noted Shakespearean scholar Dr Anne Righter (later Professor Anne Barton) and poet Jeremy Prynne supervised Greer in her first term and a half at Cambridge University, from late 1964-1965. Greer's special interest was Renaissance Literature and the Renaissance seminars were led by Professor Muriel Bradbrook, the first female professor of English at Cambridge University. Greer was initially going to sit for the Tripos as an affiliated student but after a term and a half Greer was persuaded to change her course of studies and was accepted as a research student. Her doctorate, supervised by Dr Righter, examined William Shakespeare's early comedies. In 1969, Righter married John Barton, one of the founders of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
