Turner during his tenure as Professor of the University of Melbourne School of Botany. The files included in this Series were maintained at the School of Botany and transferred to the University of Melbourne Archives in May, 1984 by Professor T. C. Chambers, Professor Turner's successor.
The files included in this Series generally document various activities and interests that may be regarded as being extra-curricular to Turner's "official" responsibilities. They also document Turner's role and responsibilities as a Professor at the University of Melbourne and as a researcher and educator in one of Australia's major institutions of tertiary education.
This Series includes reference to Professor Turner's activities and interests in the areas of conservation and ecology, including his involvement with the following committees and organisations: Land Conservation Council; Australian Conservation Foundation; Conservation Council of Victoria; Save the Dandenongs League; Victorian National Parks Association; National Trust of Australia (Victoria); Commonwealth Advisory Committee on the Environment; Environment Studies Association of Victoria; Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA); Como Garden Committee; Miss M.
