The first meeting of the Standing Committee of the Council on Staff and Establishments appointed by the Council on the 15th of July 1935, in accordance with the recommendation made in a report to Council by the Re-classification Committee was held on Thursday the 1st of August 1935. The last meeting took place on the 4th of June 1972, after which it became known as the Committee on Staff. There was no change in its terms of reference. This committee held its first meeting on the 18th of July and its last on the 2nd of May 1992 after which it became known as the Academic Staff Development Committee. The committee comprised of senior officers of the University, including the Vice-Chancellor and later included the Director of Personnel Services and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Resources). Summary of Contents: Dealing with sudden staff vacancies; administrative and clerical appointments; individual cases of appointment; reclassification of positions, salaries and promotions; decision as to whether certain positions should be advertised or filled by invitation; consideration of appeals regarding reclassification and salary increments; departmental and faculty requests for staff and proposals of candidates to positions. More recent issues include Aboriginal and Koori representation on staff; participation of female staff; general staff development; staff transfer provisions; career statements and award restructuring.
