At the end of 1937 he became Demonstrator in Human Anatomy at the University of Oxford, where he continued his research in neuroanatomy. In July 1938 he was appointed Professor of Anatomy at Melbourne. From 1940-1945 he was in charge of a Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit at the A.G.M.H. at Heidelberg.
