He was associ- ated with the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum, and the (charitable) Model Lodging House in the city, and may have been an honorary at the Melbourn Hospital. He died in 1890. He was first elected to an honorary medical position with the Benevolent Asylum (along with Drs Brownless and Creelman) 22 February 1853, fifteen months after it opened. In October 1882 he was presented with a silver teapot by the sharehold- ers of the Model Lodging House Co. Ltd. to honour his long service to it
