Logging and milling began at Vanikoro Island in 1922. The Vanikoro Kauri Timber Company was formed in 1925 by merging interests of the Kauri Timber Company with San Cristoval Estates Ltd, however the copra plantations belonging to the SCEL were excluded from this merger.
