They cover his involvement with air raid precautions, first aid and bomb education in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell where he lived; his activities in professional agricultural and scientific committees and his enquiries into working conditions in textile mills, especially women's working conditions.
The earliest record is a letter of 1934 from his pen friend Tan Swee Kim in the Malacca Straits Settlement, and the latest is in 1964 from Croll in support of assistance to the Royal Botanic Gardens and Herbarium in Melbourne.
The papers include those of his father Robert Henderson Croll in support of a scheme to settle Jewish refugees in the Kimberley, Western Australia c.1939. Many of the geological reports and publications also included bear the stamp of Ian C. H.
