This series covers the effects on National Mutual Life Association resulting from the cyclone 'Tracy' disaster which hit Darwin on 24 December 1974. Subjects included loss of homes and contents by our field staff, payment of claims to policyholders, terms of loans, procedures to be followed in settling all these matters, advices to all branches on what was being done by NMLA. 'Darwin Policyholders Service Managers' were appointed in each Australian branch to handle enquiries by policyholders who were affected by the disaster. At the time of the disaster, Queensland branch maintained a Divisional Sales manager and five field agents. All lost their homes or accommodation and most of their personal belongings. Although Queensland Branch provided the Sales Staff (with and office girl), policies written were registers on the queensland register in respect to the northern parts of the territory and South Australia branch for the southern parts of the territory. As at 1983 South Australia branch administers the Darwin division.Collection CategoryBusinessAccess StatusOpen for public accessRequest Access to RecordsRequest records from this Series
