-Prepare a nomination for the office of Dean for presentation to the Faculty
-Prepare nominations for membership of standing committees for presentation to Faculty and,
-Receive the Dean's Report.
A meeting of the Assembly could also be called by the Dean to consider proposals for the awarding of honorary degrees. Members of the Assembly were to receive copies of the minutes of Faculty meetings. This was the product of a "new-style" faculty constituted after discussions took place in 1964. There was no formal change, but rather an extension of the Faculty membership to include ex-officio members, representatives of other faculties, co-opted members and departmental staff. This was instituted by the Dean at the time, to ensure a regular attendance at all meetings by members. In 1970,a draft statute to formally establish a Faculty Assembly had been approved by the Faculty and the Assembly and forwarded to Council for approval. For reasons unspecified, the approval had not been obtained and was resubmitted after four years in 1975. Despite efforts to enact the legislation, it appears the Assembly was disassembled and held its last meeting on the 12th of April, 1976. Summary of Contents The minutes refer to matters such as the nomination of Dean; Nominations of members to standing committees and the Dean's reports. Note About Format Series consists of two cloth-bound volumes with typed extracts pasted onto pages. First volume dated 1965-1968 is shared with the minutes of the Faculty of Arts Dean's Committee (UM491). The second volume dated 1969-1976 is shared with the minutes of the Faculty of Arts Accommodation Committee (UM489) and Policy Options Committee (UM587).
