Agent TypeOrganisationIdentifierUMA-AG-000000245Activities & OccupationsUniversity committeeHistoryThe Victorian College of Agriculture and Horticulture (VCAH) was created by an Act of Parliamant in 1982 and opened on 8 March 1983. It was a single, multi-campus institution comprising six of Victoria's Agricultural Colleges: Burnley, Glenormiston, Dookie, Longerenong, McMillan Rural Studies Centre and Gilbert Chandler College of Dairy Technology. The VCAH Act 1982, transferred to the VCAH the control and administration of the Agricultural Colleges carried on as State Agricultural Colleges. The VCAH was managed by a 22 member Council. As part of tertiary education reforms initiated by the Commonwealth Government in 1988 which aimed to create fewer and larger tertiary institutions, the VCAH needed to merge with a larger partner. The University of Melbourne and the VCAH signed a formal agreement in 1989 to seek affiliation which finally happened on 1 July 1992. A review of the University's agriculture and related education took place in 1994 and the Greenland Review and subsequent working party exploring its recommendations, recommended that the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry become the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture. Once the new faculty was created in 1995, the integration between the VCAH and the University began to occur and on 1 July 1997, the Institute of Land and Food Resources superceded the VCAH.
